Lies and prying eyes

Looks like the ODJFS had more of an interest in Joe the Plumber than we had previously thought. From The Columbus Dispatch:

Helen Jones-Kelley, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, disclosed today that computer inquiries on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher were not restricted to a child-support system.

The agency also checked Wurzelbacher in its computer systems to determine whether he was receiving welfare assistance or owed unemployment compensation taxes, she wrote.

Jones-Kelley made the revelations in a letter to Ohio Senate President Bill M. Harris, R-Ashland, who demanded answers on why state officials checked out Wurzelbacher.

Harris called the multiple records checks “questionable” and said he awaits more answers. “It’s kind of like Big Brother is looking in your pocket,” he said.

Oh but Helen has a perfectly reasonable explanation…. she was merely doing her job:

“Given our understanding that Mr. Wurzelbacher had publicly indicated that he had the means to purchase a substantial business enterprise, ODJFS, consistent with past departmental practice, checked confidential databases ,” she wrote.

“Not surprisingly, when a person behind in child support payments or receiving public assistance is receiving significant media attention which suggests that the person appears to have available financial resources, the Department risks justifiable criticism if it fails to take note and respond,” Jones-Kelley wrote.

Naturally. Certainly the first thing that came to MY mind after Wurzelbacher’s chat with Obama was whether Jones-Kelley and her peeps over at the department were properly executing their duties.

Seriously folks, we’ve all dealt with government agencies from time to time. Have you EVER known a bureaucrat to jump on a case that quickly? The word “socialism” had barely even left Joe’s mouth before the bits and bytes were flying over at the ODJFS.

Now note the next sentence:

The results of the searches were not publicly released and remain confidential, she wrote.

Oh really? Let’s look at that in light of her previous statement: “Not surprisingly, when a person behind in child support payments or receiving public assistance is receiving significant media attention…” Looks to me as if this is her wink-nudge way of suggesting that Joe IS, in fact, behind on child support or HAD received public assistance. For someone who has vowed to keep this stuff under wraps, she certainly seems to be floating that impression out there.

But hey, maybe we should give the woman the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps the accusations of partisan motives are, in fact, unfounded.

If only it weren’t for this one little minor detail:

Jones-Kelly also has denied any connections between the computer checks on Wurzelbacher and her support for Obama. She donated the maximum $2,500 this year to the Obama campaign.

Ahhhhh… let’s clear the woman’s good name and move on then. Obviously this is all just a misunderstanding…

The irony of all this is that libs have always hemmed and hawed about the intrusion into their private lives that supposedly occurs during a Republican presidency. Yet when an aspiring businessman dares to question the Chosen One’s motives on his tax plan, it takes less than 24 hours for liberal government employees and the MSM to start bulldozing into his personal and financial life. Very reminiscent of the Clinton years… and the Boy Wonder is not even president yet.

But just wait until he is
