Senate candidate Al Franken held a roundtable discussion for veterans last week.  Unfortunately the turnout fell a little short of what he had hoped:

U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken got an audience of one at a roundtable on veterans issues last week in St. Cloud, Minn., where a former Navy man told him that he got veterans health care when he finally asked for it.

According to the St. Cloud Times, Franken spent an hour with Josh John, a veteran who served from 2000-04, who told Franken that one bad experience with an individual at the local Veterans Affairs office turned him off seeking help, but a year later when the stress got to him, his family finally made him get registered for health care.

“And since then, I haven’t had a problem. I’ve gotten a lot of help, and every question I’ve gotten answered,” John said, according to the newspaper.

Well since John was a Navy guy I can’t use the “Army of One” line. But I do have to give credit to old Al. After decades in the comedy biz, the funnyman continues to tickle our funny-bone… even if unintentionally.
